Driving Sustainable Innovation and Injecting Powerful Momentum into Power Devices
July 19, 2024, Shanghai, China — Recently, WeEn Semiconductors (hereafter referred to as WeEn), a globally leading international power device brand, participated in Electronica China 2024 in Shanghai. Under the theme ‘Power Efficiency for a Cooler Planet’ , WeEn showcased its innovative achievements in power semiconductor applications through diverse presentations. Furthermore, WeEn introduced its brand philosophy, ‘Power Efficiency for a Cooler Planet’, based on the brand pillars of ‘Efficiency’, ‘Reliability’, and ‘Innovation’. WeEn also unveiled its ‘Five Horizontal, Four Vertical Strategy’ for the first time.
This ‘Five Horizontal, Four Vertical Strategy’ represents WeEn’s formal upgrade and expansion of its power semiconductor product line. The ‘Five Horizontal’ aspect focuses on key product categories: thyristors, power diodes, silicon carbide devices, IGBTs, and MOSFETs. The ‘Four Vertical’ component targets four crucial application areas: consumer electronics, industrial control, new energy vehicles and renewable energy. This strategic approach enables WeEn to develop a diverse portfolio of products and application solutions across these sectors.
Notably, WeEn focuses on enhancing and upgrading its brand value system across three distinct dimensions: ‘Boundless Energy Efficiency’, ‘Reliability Empowerment’, and ‘Innovation Capture’. Specifically: improving comprehensive efficiency factors, WeEn aims to continuously reduce core indices of power devices, including conduction losses, switching losses, and other related losses; strengthening reliability performance in research and development, WeEn benefits from the dual support of BCAM and APQP management systems. For automotive-grade products, WeEn adheres to ‘Zero Defect’ standards. Advanced concepts such as statistical management and Design of Experiments (DOE) are employed to help reduce failure rates and improve product quality; Driving innovation, WeEn leverages its outstanding professional expertise to implement a series of innovative approaches in materials, wafer design, and back-end packaging, yielding significant results.
Will Yin, WeEn Global Vice President of Sales & Marketing
During a media event, Will Yin, WeEn Global Vice President of Sales & Marketing stated, “The Chinese market is one of the most important and promising markets for WeEn globally. WeEn aims to actively participate in China's industrial green transformation and support the coordinated development of China's new quality productivity by leveraging its multi-level innovative achievements, diversified business advantages, and technological operational capabilities. WeEn will continue to uphold its sustainable development vision of ‘Power Efficiency for a Cooler Planet’, deepen collaboration with over 5,000 global partners, explore further development opportunities, and achieve win-win outcomes across the upstream and downstream industry chain.”
According to data from market research firm Omdia, WeEn’s thyristor products rank first in market share in China and second globally. Their silicon carbide rectifier products rank first in the Chinese market and seventh globally. In fact, beyond traditional products such as thyristors and power diodes, WeEn’s comprehensive product line expansion includes silicon carbide devices, IGBTs, and MOSFETs. This strategic diversification forms a solid foundation for WeEn's ‘Four Vertical’ development strategy, enabling expansion into various application domains. Notably, with the commencement of operations at the Shanghai Jinshan packaging plant last year, WeEn has developed numerous module packaging solutions. This advancement has significantly enhanced the company’s ability to meet customized demands in the industrial sector.
Kevin Shen, WeEn Chief Strategy and Business Operations Officer, emphasized, “WeEn’s technological advantage is primarily reflected in our excellent energy efficiency optimization. Our product portfolio is primarily structured based on operating frequency and output power, with different devices suited for various scenarios. For instance, traditional thyristors are mainly used in low-frequency, medium to high-power applications. In contrast, IGBTs are more suitable for high-frequency operations. Clearly, improving electrical efficiency and reducing power losses have become crucial objectives for power semiconductors. These are precisely the focal points of WeEn’s technological innovation.”
Kevin Shen, WeEn Chief Strategy and Business Operations Officer
This year, following the launch of its 2000V rectifier diodes, WeEn plans to introduce 2500V products in the second half of the year, primarily targeting photovoltaic and EV charging station applications. Additionally, the company will simultaneously release 1600V thyristor products and 2200V silicon carbide MOSFET products. In terms of packaging, WeEn’s proprietary packaging technology significantly reduces turn-on and turn-off losses, and has already been adopted in large volumes by numerous photovoltaic customers. WeEn’s new wafer fabrication plant in Beijing is expected to commence operations next year, which will substantially expand production capacity.
Looking ahead, WeEn is eager to collaborate with various partners to explore new pathways for sustainable development and actively promote positive growth of the power semiconductor industry. Currently, WeEn operates independent research, development, and application centers in Shanghai and Manchester, UK. WeEn has also established offices in regions including Shenzhen, Singapore, and India. Beyond the domestic market, WeEn Semiconductors’ sales network extends globally, with sales teams and distributors serving customers in Europe, the Americas, Southeast Asia, Japan, South Korea, and India.
